I’m happy to share the latest trailer for The Whispering Dead, a found footage horror feature film I edited following a 2008 TV crew as they explore Ettersberg Hospital, a location notorious for its sordid history and high paranormal activity.

Special ghoulish shout outs to Busted Knuckle Productions, director Hunter G. Williams, and Depend®-brand undergarments for their trustworthy line of britches that got me through the experience.

Behold! The latest thing to crawl out from the dungeon!

I’m extremely proud and excited to reveal my latest directing project — “The Invention of Video Games” — a silly-fun short for the good people over at Red 5 Studios. Many months ago, the ever-so-talented producer Cindi Rice told me about Red 5′s newest project: a digital studio focused on providing new and interesting stories for the digital space. “Well gosh,” I thought to myself, “that sounds pretty awesome.” And thus began the always-exciting journey of making it happen, where Invention became one of the inaugural films funded for the “Continuum” series of Red 5′s vision: Stage 5 Studios.

I’d be remiss to exclude talking up the genius / insanity of my good buddy Anthony Falleroni, who I teamed with to write and produce this little monstrosity.

I hope you enjoy the 4:37 minutes of pure ridiculousness within. My goal is to amend classroom textbooks to include this factual retelling of one of history’s most pivotal moments.

Check it out on YouTube!

Perhaps one of the most striking images in all of film history is the poster for John Carpenter’s 1982 classic, “The Thing,” painted by none other than legendary artist Drew Struzan (of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Blade Runner fame). The real question is: what is the story behind that unique image and what kind of impact does a poster have on the movie-going audience?

I was lucky to be involved with this truly unique look inside Mondo Tees, one of the leaders in modern day movie poster making. Known for releasing incredibly high-quality, exclusive, limited edition movie posters, this mini documentary series shows the process for the re-release of “The Thing” movie poster, set against the backdrop of the Alamo Drafthouse’s “Summer of ’82″ film series. Featuring interviews with director John Carpenter, legendary artist Drew Struzan, Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League, and many others from the Mondo staff.

Produced as part of Comic-Con coverage for Machinima.

As I teased previously, GoldenBox is an official selection to the always-exciting film fest at what many people affectionately refer to as “The Con.” With crowds numbering more than 130,000, Comic-Con is always a world-class event celebrating all things video games, movies, comics, and so much more. As a longtime admirer, but never attender-er, I’m very much looking forward to my initiation this year. I’m planning to cosplay as a “mid-20s dude filmmaker.” Time to get my costume in order…

GoldenBox will be screening Thursday, July 12th @ 1:05pm at the Marriott Marquis and Marina, Hall 2. Will look forward to seeing you there!

The GoldenBox team will be busting out the sunblock and swim trunks as we head to Palm Springs for the world famous Palm Springs ShortFest.

I’m super excited to announce that GoldenBox will be making a stop at the internationally-renowned Palm Springs International ShortFest, playing on Sunday, June 24th at 10:30am.

The Palm Springs ShortFest is the largest short film festival in the United States and largely considered one of the premiere film fest destinations — right up there with Sundance, Tribeca, and Auditorium B21 at Edison Community College in Greenville, Ohio. It boasts to have one of the largest short film markets in the world and routinely attracts all kinds of crazy star power, with past attendees including Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Jessica Biel, and Fidel Castro. Except that last one was a total lie.

And while my exceptionally pale skin will more than likely fry and crisp like a pork rind in the sweltering desert heat, it promises to be an awesome time. More exciting announcements soon!

My how time flies (or dies?)! I’ve been busy these past couple months staring at flesh-craving creatures as part of the editing team for the second season of the hit show Bite Me, the breakout horror / comedy live-action sensation from Machinima.com. As part of the series announcement, I edited this teaser trailer, which currently sits at just under 400,000 views on YouTube.

Bite Me follows three gamer best friends as they try to survive the zombie apocalypse using the skills they’ve cultivated from years of playing classic video games like the Resident Evil franchise. The first season garnered close to 15 million views on YouTube and for more than a year and half now, the public has clamored for a second season.

Production took place over the course of three weeks in late 2011, with the series slated to begin airing March 6th. The project is a co-production between Lionsgate and Capcom, with a budget close to $1.5 million, and is slated to air on Lionsgate’s specialty cable network FEARnet.

The series was shot on a wide range of mixed media, with primary photography taking place on two RED MXs. Additional footage included a Red EPIC, Sony AF100, Canon 5D Mk. II, iPhone, and an entire motion comic sequence. Directed by my good buddy Jarrett Lee Conaway, Bite Me is all about kicking ass and taking names. And playing video games. And kicking more ass. And playing more video games.

If you dig blood, guts, and gore, this series is for you.

Nestled near the snowy mountaintop of Oregons, Bend is a quaint little town of about 80,000 people and home to one of the Top 20 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee in the BendFilm Festival.

Our experience so far here with GoldenBox has been nothing short of phenomenal. An amazingly well-organized and efficient festival, along with beautiful scenery and genuinely friendly locals have really made this festival one worth remembering. Thankfully, the buzz for GoldenBox has been astoundingly positive. A great piece on the local evening news:

In a packed upstairs room at the Hollywood landmark Geisha House (which, by the way, has the most incredible food, like, ever), GoldenBox was spotlighted as one of the top films of the fest, an amazing honor given all the talent and top-quality stories we had seen throughout the week. A big thank you goes to the fest organizers and sponsors, as well as all the friendly filmmakers I had a chance to meet at the various screenings and events.

Film festivals almost feel kind of like summer camp. You go for a week or so, make a lot of new friends and then come home and write each other letters to keep in touch. It’s awesome. I’ve never actually been to summer camp, forced instead to live vicariously through the classic Disney Channel hit Bug Juice. Thanks HollyShorts for the summer camp experience!

In the world we live in today, it sometimes feels like no news is good news and good news can be bad news and bad news is no news and now my head hurts. But today? I have nothing but incredible, exciting, parade-worthy news: GoldenBox has an official Los Angeles premiere date and two new festival announcements!

GoldenBox will make its LA Shorts debut the night of Tuesday, July 26th @ 10pm at the Sunset 5, screening last and capping off what’s sure to be a fun night. Check out the LA Shorts website for ticketing information.

If you can’t make the LA Shorts screening, I’m happy to announce two additional chances for our friends and stalkers in the LA area to check out the film. First up: the Action On Film Festival in Pasadena, celebrating action, chills and the most thrilling stories around. Screening information has yet to be released, but take a gander at their website and keep checking back to see when the schedule is finalized.

After that, we’re very excited to be part of the 7th annual Hollyshorts Festival. Featuring the best short films from around the world, the festival has quickly acquired quite the pedigree. Check out this cool video they’ve put together:

Pretty awesome. Happy 4th of July!
