Perhaps one of the most striking images in all of film history is the poster for John Carpenter’s 1982 classic, “The Thing,” painted by none other than legendary artist Drew Struzan (of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Blade Runner fame). The real question is: what is the story behind that unique image and what kind of impact does a poster have on the movie-going audience?
I was lucky to be involved with this truly unique look inside Mondo Tees, one of the leaders in modern day movie poster making. Known for releasing incredibly high-quality, exclusive, limited edition movie posters, this mini documentary series shows the process for the re-release of “The Thing” movie poster, set against the backdrop of the Alamo Drafthouse’s “Summer of ’82” film series. Featuring interviews with director John Carpenter, legendary artist Drew Struzan, Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League, and many others from the Mondo staff.
Produced as part of Comic-Con coverage for Machinima.
